Security of IoT Devices
IoT’s best practices are very important to incorporate when developing new devices. All those details will articulate how to not make the same mistakes while developing the security of that device. There have been many attacks in the past on IoT devices- one most sort after was the botnet in 2016 for a major DDoS attack. It was an attack on the CCTV cameras, on the TCP/IP stack to send junk traffic.
When it does not looks like a big deal, but even devices with just temperature sensors or microwave controllers when not having security programmed can become a launching pad for attacks. Also, risker is the devices which have a camera and microphone- they can remotely control and converted into spy devices. Check out this video to get into more understanding of why the security of IoT devices is important.
This video from the team of Adafruit and Digi-Key touches upon the topic of S in IoT is for security. Now many laws have been passed where privacy and security are being legislated and carry a hefty penalty or even banned in the marketplace if an organization fails to secure personal information of their customers or employees. It would be very wise to add security to devices rather than a recall after a devastating attack.
